My husband just left for iraq but called me from maine germany and kuwait and he called his dad once...so by the time he got to iraq i think he had used up his 100 minutes. He didnt call when a couple of my friends got calls from their husbands :(

My husband and I have been through this and with all of our searching and trying to save money, the best ones wind up being the ones in the Px/Shoppette. Get one and you take down botht eh 800 number to call for refills and the pin. This is the best way cause refilling it is a matter of a call or can be reset to fill when minutes need replaced. I used a Sams' card at first ( really its the same retailer) but to refill the card was an additional 8.00 fee- you pay more for the minutes through AAFES but the refill charge is less, I promise I am a bargain hunter and this is the best I have come by- other then having him buy an Iraqui phone and getting a special phone plan to call that country.
Reply:The VFW has calling cards they will send to your husband free, they will send one a month. Go to their website and give them his address. I researched this for my son and it is a tough one. Cell phone minutes are insane. An enterprising company would donate minutes or give reduced rates to deployed soldiers don't you think? Anyway try VFW and if you find anymore good ones let me know OK?

I know that my step-mom only sends AT%26amp;T cards to my brother who is overseas.

From there he can dial the 1800 number on the calling card. If he does this he will be charged the same minutes that he would be charged for making a state to state call and not the outrageous minutes he would be charged at the ATT calling center.

VOIP stands for VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL.
This is something like Voice chat that we do in YahooMessenger but the only other advantage is that we can make PSTN calls (calls to MOBILE PHONES AND FIXED LAND LINES).
This service is provided by some companies which have tieups with different Telephone operators and they forward your call to those companies and your call goes to the normal phone.
This is cheap and effective...but the other main disadvantage of this service is that YOU can not know exactly from which place the particular call is coming.(so emergercy call 911 service is not possible).
PrePaid Calling Cards are those where you buy some talking min before u dial a phone..so as you talk on your phone the money from ur card (phone) gets diducted and finally u will not be able to call anymore.

Right now i am set up for Egypt , and i think its like 30 cents a minute. Could be better where you are from. Just ask them what the rates are and tell them you plan to call often. I think they have a package for that.

The best is one of 50 LE (Egyptian Pounds) - and then, go to the next public telephone and insert that card and call back home. Where can I get PrePaid Calling Cards online?
I know a couple of websites such as eecalling.com, minicalls.com, onesuite.com, masterdial.net and stuff like that but I've never tried them.
What I need is something where I'll sign up for an account, pay for a pre-paid phone card ($10, $25 demonimations ect.) and while im using it and they say YOU HAVE 5 MINS LEFT ON YOUR CARD... I can go online and add $10 and have that credit put on the card instantly so I can continue with my call without having to wait hours for authorization?
It'll be ok if I need to disconnect the call and redial.

I noticed that all calling card providers dont provide a way to see your calling history either online or via a paper statement. It seems the onyl way to know is to call them up and find out who you called. That's very inconvenient! So then isn't anyone afraid that these calling card companies could just jack up rates without your knowing or double-bill you on a call without your knowledge since you have no way of knowing it was a mistake or itnentional charge by them to make more money off you?
