Calling cards for Jamaican friends. What is the best kind to buy in the U.S. to bring for gifts and "tips"?

I'd like to make sure they are easy to use on the island. If I cannot buy them in U.S. where in Jamaica should I look. Does the airport sell them? Do I need to know what phone co. they use? Thanks for any help.

What an awesome gesture! Calling cards in the US may or may not work with Jamiacan telephone or cellphone providers' systems. If they connecting costs etc wouldnt make them very feasible to purchase.

I suggest you find out the cellphoen provider they use and buy the credit and hand it to them. If you wanted to buy cards so they could call you abroad Cable and Wireless has a number of international calling cards for use on their system. But regular phone credit will also allow your friends to keep in touch.

The airport will definately have credit on sale for each of the 3 mobile phone carriers as well as for the homephone service. the lowest domination you can buy is $120JMD ($100 value of the card and $20 tax) this is equal to about $1.50USD and you can buy up to a $1000JMD.

Be sure to ask you friends what carrier they use AND there phone numbers (if you use other top up methods). You can even purchase credit online at www.digiceljamaica.com

Reply:You can't buy calling cards to use on jamaican phones in the US. When you get to Jamaica find a Digicel dealer and buy wholesale phone cards there.
Reply:You can't use calling cards bought in the U.S. for calling out if you are in Jamaica. All markets in Jamaica sell calling cards and often people on the street walk around selling them as well.
