Can marines get calling cards in boot camp?

My boyfriend just left for Marine bootcamp yesterday. I know that they arent really permitted to make phone calls during bootcamp. But I heard that if you send them a calling card they can use it to call home. Is there anyone who has been through Marine bootcamp or had someone close to them go through it that knows from experience if this is true or not? Thanks guys =)

no he can't call you and from what i remember I got expert on the rifle range and I qualified top in the swim qualification and was a guide, 10yrs ago, and I couldn't use the phone.
Reply:You will probably not hear from him (at least by phone!) until he is done with Boot Camp! If you send him one, it will probably be confiscated and he will get into trouble. Don't set him up like that!
Reply:It's a moot point. They can't make phone calls in Boot. I suppose it's not against the rules to have a phone card he isn't allowed to use.
Reply:It seems that you already got your answer about the phone cards. Letters though, it depends on what the drill instructors are like. Push-ups aren't that big of a deal, and belive me, he'll do them to get the mail from you. Most of the time though they won't have to do push-ups for their mail, unless they get a ton. As far as time goes to read it, probably during the night with a red lens flashlight under their covers or something. Sunday's they'll have time to write letters and read letters. Hope this helps.
Reply:no don't send them send him some pictures and lots of letters to keep his hopes up!! he will not be able to call home..
Reply:No he wont be able to call unless his drill instructors let him if he earned it. Otherwise he wont be calling home. Our drill instructors let us call home if we shot expert on the range, got a first class pft on our final pft, or if you got a swim qual one. Those were the only opportunities we had and they had to be earned.
Reply:no he cant
