The same is with calling cards.

1) If you make few infrequent calls choose a no-fee card, often called clean-card or no-mainteneance-card, without expiration date.

2) If you make many calls and use up your card fast the mainteneance fee does not matter, and expiration is not imprtant. Rates per minute are lower on these cards than on cards in the previous paragraph.

3) If you call international, choose a card that specializes in intl markets.

4) Finally if you want to make a call from many different countries choose a card that has access codes in many countries.

Some my favourites:

1) Clean Cards - Xtra Clean - see http://www.ampolbiz.com/SpeedyPin.htm

2) Cards with maintenance - USA from Nobel - see http://www.nvcards.com/

3) International - Latin America - see http://www.prismlongdistance.com/
