HELP!!with Calling cards?
Orange and other major mobile companies have recently seen a sharp rise in calling cards being used. These used to either be free or charged at a low rates when you called them. Recently mobile companies have been compiling a database of calling card numbers so they are no longer accepted by your phone as a cheap rate call. A lot of the calling card numbers begin with 07 or 02 and this originally tricked the systems into thinking they were UK calls. As the phone companies are becoming aware of these cards they are now being charged at standard international rates to which ever country you call. It may be a better idea to use a payphone or a landline with the calling cards. Also phone customer services at Orange to ask about International call bundles that allow you legitably to make discounted calls abroad.

Orange don't endorse any calling cards no matter what the card claims about free or discounted calls abroad made whilst using them.

Hope this helps :)
Reply:Sounds like cause you called from a mobile it charged you at a higher rate hun. Im with 02, m boyfriend is in Austalia %26amp; forme its ceaper to call him from my mobile just with my credit that with a calling card. Im prepay with o2 but i have niternational caller bolt on, a one off charge of £5 which is deducted from your balance. Its actually cheaper for me to call him thanit is for me to call a friend whos on vodaphone, orange or another uk network.. Like everything else, its cheaper to call a landline than a mobile.

Id recommend maybe looking into changing networks %26amp; tryin to 92 way as India is cheaper to call than AUs
Reply:When you use a phone card you still pay for the call to the access number on the phone line you are using. As you said you only had a little credit on your phone you probably ran out.
Reply:I presume that you have to dial an 0800 or 0844 number to access the pin number to make your calls? Mobile phone companies charge their own rate when you dial these, even when it's a free call number. So yes you are losing out using your mobile. Use a landline or phone box to make the most out of them.
Reply:The reason of this incident is not a mobile phone. They simply deceived you. In future, select a tried company. Buy a calling card online. First, visit International Phone Card Review. They will put you to one or two things worth knowing.
Reply:You got scammed by the phone card companies. A much better service is a prepaid dial-around service in which you get the best of both worlds of phone cards and a long distance carrier but without all the hassles. Cheap flat rates without any fees whatsoever, great call quality, no taxes, pinless dialing, online account management, 24/7 live customer service, and so on.

http://www.MiniCalls.com One of the best services around and I've used lots and stuck with them. Great rates, excellent quality, and no fees whatsoever. They are also giving away free minutes when you sign up.

Highly recommended.

Beware of phone cards with very low rates. Along with the low rates comes very poor sound quality and hidden fees.

Good luck!
